I've been doing quite a bit of reading on health lately, partly because I struggle with depression and have baby weight to lose, but mostly because I often feel crappy (sorry, just being blunt here) physically. I decided I'm sick and tired of being, well, sick and exhausted! Sure, some of it is due to being a busy mama of three, but I'm convinced there's more to it.
In my reading, many authors strongly market their program as the cure of all ills. Some of it may be good, while a lot of it is just plain overpriced and possibly not that good for you. I have some friends who've gone crunchy, and more and more, I'm seeing the benefits. I started reading Jillian Michaels' Master Your Metabolism, and surprisingly, have been rather impressed. She herself struggled with many of the same issues I struggle with until she got rid of processed foods and limited the toxins in her environment. Her theories are about how all the chemicals and non-foods that we eat as foods seriously disrupt our hormonal systems and cause a host of health and emotional problems.
So I've started. We're trying to eat more natural, less processed foods. Today I cleaned out the linen closet, and the Clorox is leaving our home. I'm trying to use much safer options to clean; seriously, have you read the warning labels on your cleaning products? It feels very freeing to say goodbye to that stuff! BTW, if you're curious, plain old vinegar and baking soda are cheap and clean very well.
Today for lunch, we all enjoyed tacos (or in my case) taco salad with grass fed, no hormone beef. Mark browned the meat for me, and he said it actually smelled better than normal. (He didn't know what it was until I told him.) I was thrilled that Andrew and Ellie had no clue the tortillas were whole wheat and ate them without complaint.

Good luck on the changes Sara! I'm striving to make changes in our lifestyle as well. Maybe not quite the same as yours, but I'm trying to rely A LOT less on takeout and processed stuff.
